Farewell Oppo! Today is the last day in what has been a grueling last month or so of work. I have to tie up a few loose ends in the next day, then I get married, then we’re honeymooning for two weeks! I even got a totally unexpected “wedding bonus” from my company! Which is awesome because wedding stuff is a fucking racket.

I’m sure you’ll be fine without your resident car snob, but I will certainly be chomping at the bit for some car conversation by the time I get back.

I’m secretly hoping that my boss tells me to beat feet after I tell him all of the things he needs to know when I’m gone.

My dream 911 for your time.

I have one line of advice on marriage. Don’t sleep together when either of you is sick. Good luck, have a great time

Marriage is buying a house for someone you hate.

That line just seems oddly inappropriate here.

Congrats - enjoy the day and your trip and remember that the marriage is much more important than the wedding. Wishing you many, many happy years together.

Tying up loose ends is very important. You don’t want those bastards to escape.

Congrats!!

And WEDDING BONUS??? I need in on this gig. We’re about to put a deposit down on a venue and I just keep thinking of everything else I could be doing with that cash...

If I get married, I’m just going to tell caterers/venues that it’s for a large party. I feel like as soon as the word “wedding” comes up it’s carte blanche to charge (what I think are) insane prices. Even if parents wanted to pay for it, I’d rather use that cash for a sweet honeymoon. A five-figure wedding bill, which many of my friends had, is just unreasonable to me.

Yea I was floored! I had just finished my presentation, and then they hit me with an envelope full of cash!

Yea prepare for a lot more of that. Every time I opened my wallet I thought, “This is not a car, or a expensive part for a car, or a motorcycle..”

Yea there is a little truth in that (saying that it’s for a wedding and getting beat because of it), but unless you’re doing a courthouse/firehouse gig. They will get you.

The jewelry was the toughest pill to swallow for me. I’m not into jewelry, and when I bought her engagement ring I just couldn’t stop thinking about why a tiny piece of metal that does nothing except look pretty costs as much as a car. Then I procrastinated on the wedding band until last week and while it was not as expensive it certainly was not cheap.

Yeah, I think jewelry is silly but then again, my love of watches is probably thought as silly by others just because they’re more ornamental these days since everyone carries around phones which tell time anyway (although watches still do have an actual function as opposed to other jewelry).

I suppose if you love someone you'll do seemingly silly things to make them happy. Congratulations and enjoy yourselves!
